It was the 10th straight day of double-digit rises in new cases in Melbourne and surrounding Victoria state, while most other Australian regions have seen no or low single-digit new infections for weeks.
Officials reported another 30 new COVID-19 infections in Melbourne overnight in a continuing outbreak that has raised fears of a second wave in Australia, which looked like it had successfully contained the disease. The Melbourne outbreak has rattled officials across Australia, with several states warning Victorians to stay away.
New Zealand who was COVID-19 free for 23 days now has 14 active cases. Two Kiwi women - one in her 30s and one in her 40s - arrived on 7th of June on an Air New Zealand flight from Brisbane, before staying at the Novotel Auckland Ellerslie Hotel in managed isolation. The pair was given special dispensation to leave isolation on June 13 to support grieving family members after a parent's death in Wellington. It was confirmed the pair were not tested for Covid-19 before being allowed to leave the hotel.
